GM
TRUCK PAN
by Hoosker
As you probably
already know, there is a "deep" transmission pan available from
GM with a drain plug. The pan is P/N 24215535, list price $56.
WARNING: Remove
the drain plug before you install this pan! I had to heat the plug and
then soak it with penetrating lubricant before I could get the plug out...
The corresponding
filter kit is P/N 24208576, list price $39.50. {Don't pay the prices
listed for these parts; I paid $70 total for these items, including sales
tax.}
Anywhoo , I was
reluctant to use this pan because my car is lowered with 2"
Suspension Techniques lowering springs and 275/40 <--> 315/35 tires.
I decided to go ahead and install the pan due to the reduced capacity I
would have with the 9.5" Yank T/C.
Here's what the
ground clearance looks like on my car:

The
tape measure has 1/2" of tape extended, for a grand total of
3.5" of clearance. The metallic object in the foreground (top) is the
catalytic resonance chamber .
The
pan is not the lowest thing under the car, so I'm not too worried about it
now. Also, the drain plug is recessed, so even if you drag the pan, you
won't knock the plug out.
Once
again: Remove the drain plug before you install this pan! It comes from GM
torqued to roughly 500 ft-lbs...
