The Impala SS was running on March 25, 2009. It won its first Trophy on
March 28th.
Then it was taken for a DYNO Tune-up at Mike Norris Motorsports on April 2,
2009
Here are the results: (see email note

Comments:
1.
The car is not set up for racing conditions.
2.
The current torque converter is designed for "drivability" so it
is much
looser than would be desirable to maximize horsepower.
3.
The "Big-Ass Tires" take away a ton of rear HP as measured on a
dyno.
4.
With the "heavy duty" status of many structural parts of the
drive-train,
a lot of horsepower is lost getting to the rear wheels.
The
only accurate way to measure Engine Horsepower and Engine Torque
will
be to put the engine on its own dyno cell.
However, the best guess
is
that the set-up for the car the way it is,
would cause a 25%-30% loss
of
measured power from the engine to the real wheels.

EMAIL
MESSAGE FROM MIKE NORRIS …… re: DYNO RESULTS
April 2, 2009
----------------------------------------------
Hi Terry,
I made a point to go out and turn on the dyno computer to get you the dyno
information for your Impala SS.
Do not let the numbers fool you as the auto transmission with that
Gear Vendors Overdrive, a loose torque converter and those big
ass tires will knock the numbers down quite a bit.
My dyno showed 409 rear wheel HP and 483 rear wheel torque. Now how much
drivetrain loss you actually have is debateable, and the only way to know is to
put the engine on its own dyno cell. I
would say you would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30% + loss through
that drive train itself. Everything is very heavy and that eats up HP as it
gets to the wheels for sure.
Thanks and talk to you soon.
