CURRENT NEWS for 2011

Sorry, but due to the fact that no one has volunteered to be our Club President, we will not plan any club events for awhile.  We hope to see some higher level of interest to become club officers so that we can continue having regular club activities.

We thank Bob Borchers & his wife Lynn for their long tenure as Club volunteers and all the effort put forth to find a replacement when Bob's final term as President ended in June of 2009.

World's Fastest Impala SS ..  John Madeley's World's Fastest Impala SS at the Bonneville Salt Flats.   So far John's best speed is 212 MPH.  John lives out West where he spends his extra time making this car go faster every year.

2010 - NEWS

ITEM  #1.  The club September meeting was a good time to get caught up after taking off a couple months to avoid the summer heat.  Nice cool evening and a very good club member turn out, plus a new member made a nice video of the cars that were there .... see it:  http://vimeo.com/14894499

ITEM  #2.  Mod day in July was hot ... but it was great to have it inside under cover with fans at HARRISONS SPEED SHOP on East SR 50 just West of Orlando.  Many mods were completed and the turnout was terrific!.  

ITEM  # 3-a:  Daytona Event was a great success..... and tons of fun! 
Bob Borchers as the event coordinator, along with his wife Lynn and many volunteers, helped make the 2010 Daytona Spring show ... now called... the SOUTHEAST IMPALA SS NATIONALS..... sponsored by GOFASST, a wonderful and fun event.  The "BEST of SHOW" and "BEST PAINT" trophies were awarded to Ivan & Colleen Scerri.  (see Daytona '10 Event for more info and pictures  ... some event T-shirts are still available, ... see home page to order)

ITEM  # 3-b:  SoFASST helped support the Daytona event with raffle items and volunteers from the South Florida.  Their club also sponsored and gave a "Member Appreciation Award" to one of their long time members:  Al "Poppa Smurf" Hurley.  

ITEM  # 3-c:  Mr. Mike 'window fix-it man" Lukens was honored as the 2010  GOFASST sponsored "IMPALA SSPIRIT AWARD". .   Also known as the:  Annual RAZZOR-BOOGIEMAN AWARD. , in honor of two of our deceased past club leaders:  Ted "RAZZOR"  Dinsmore, & Wayne "Boogie Man" Beaman.  This award is to be given to the person that best exemplifies enthusiasm, friendship, and a willingness to share with the Impala community, just as these two men did, and Mike has earned this award. 

ITEM  # 4 : Nov. 14th '09 -  Terry Rodgers won the - Best of Show - "COOL CAT" trophy at the Emerald Coast Cruise car show in Panama City, FL.   There were over 1,900 show cars registered and attendance was the highest in the 5 year history of the show.  

ITEM  # 5: He will always be in our memories....Wayne Boogieman Beaman.

On Saturday, September 12th, 2009 our close friend and fellow club member Mr. Wayne Beaman passed away after a long battle with various health issues over the past couple of years. Wayne was a very special "car guy" with a passion for Impalas, and he was always willing to participate and volunteer for any club function.

 We will greatly miss Wayne but he gave us many wonderful memories to keep forever in our hearts. 

Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Jo Ann and their family.

A fellow club member, Steve Lazinsk (Tubbed Pro-Street '63 Impala), works at Bob Steele Chevy in Cocoa and he has negotiated a 20% discount on parts for GOFASST Members.  The information for Bob Steele Parts Dept is in the following paragraph I received from Steve.  Identify yourself as GOFASST Members when ordering parts.

REGULARY SCHEDULED MONTHLY CRUISES FOR 2009 are now held at the Sam's Club parking lot / next to Bob Evans Restaurant on SR 436 just East of SR 17-92. location until further notice !

  ITEM  #6:Don't know how many of you have seen Larry Luype's wagon, but I've attached a recent picture of it playing with some vintage Indy cars at Daytona. Larry attended the Silver Springs Show last October, but he is usually working weekends so we don't get a chance to see his working wagon.

ITEM  #7: ....  The officers of GOFASST have voted to invite older Impala SS models to join our club.  Impala SS Models from 1958 all the way to 1996... this could add a great deal of interest and enthusiasm to our club events in the future!
